I am just a proud Sabahan.

Teringat tadi, waktu ke cafe beli makanan. Pekerja-pekerjanya orang baru (lagi) ganti yang dulu. Thank God, sebab, tiap kali joging petang, tiap kalilah pekerja-pekerja tu (kitorang panggil abang cafe walaupun diorang nampak atau sebenarnya lebih muda hihihihi) duduk tepi jalan belakang cafe and bila I lalu diorang (yes, dia orang ada dalam 4-5 orang selalu lepak kat belakang) akan sorak-sorak panggil I as Sabah wth. Gila annoying lah kamu. Mentang-mentang they all tau saya dari Sabah. Heh. Rasanya dah banyak kali explain my real name tapi tetaaaaap juga nak panggil Sabah so fine. Tapi bila sampai ganggu waktu aku joging, I feel like it’s something yang sangat annoying. Now that they are gone, I feel a bit relieved. But nak tau juga, kenapa tiba-tiba semua sekaligus tukar?? What happen?

Ok sambung balik yang tadi. Waktu beli makanan kat cafe tadi. Saya pesan Teh O Ais Limau – among my favourite drinks. Then abang/pakcik (being me.. bad at guessing umur orang) tu bagi gelas berisi air yang saya order, dia tiba-tiba perhati betul-betul my face dan kemudian, dia tanya : “You’re Malay or Chinese?”

Dalam hati, saya berkata .. ‘Wow dia speaking lah!’ Haha. Dan saya pun menjawab, “Not Malay, not Chinese.”

Dia macam tertarik nak tahu lebih lanjut. Boleh tau dari reaksi muka dia. “Are you a Mix?”

Dia betul-betul tengah study my face waktu tu. Duh malunya, kalau saya ni cantik tak apalah jugak. Haha. Saya jawap, “No. Saya Dusun”. And smiled. Saja nak buat dia wonder.

“Dusun..?” He confused, I bet. Waktu tu saya perasan kawan dia lagi seorang (a cashier) tengah mengikuti perbualan dan pandang muka kami bersilih ganti sambil follow our conversation.

“From Sabah.”

“Muka macam chinese.”

“Ya ramai cakap.” I keep on smiling. For .. nothing. Tak salah senyum kan? Hehe. I berlalu leave them both after say thanks.

Let me explain, if you don’t know.

I know lah, sebab waktu tinggal kat Telupid dulu, majoriti adalah Kadazan (still boleh cam Kadazan atau Dusun kalau dengar cara percakapan). Everything is the same kecuali loghat. Tadau Kaamatan pun tetap sambut sama-sama. And as long as I remember, tak pernah ada yang mempersoalkan siapa yang lebih baik, siapa curi budaya siapa, mengajuk-ajuk loghat orang lain atau anything like that. Tiada.

Muka ala-ala chinese sikit - that's normal for us. Di Sabah, jika he/she ada mix antara Kadazandusun dengan Chinese, we call him/her a Sino. Bukan gelaran ejekan (mind you), bukan gelaran sinikal. Tapi itu dah macam official title yang diberi di Sabah jika dia mix Chinese dengan Kadazandusun samada dari sebelah mak atau bapa.

Saya sepatutnya jadi Exco Integrasi Kaum dekat kolej. Ha-ha. (berlagak gila padahal... Biro Kesenian dan Kebudayaan sekarang ni pun dah tak jalan dah. eleh. okey Fina, don't start making excuses.)

Taken by me around 8.00 AM waktu on our way ke Kota Kinabalu. Mula-mula saya nak ambil gambar Gunung Kinabalu ni waktu kereta tengah bergerak, but then, Ayah berhentikan kereta kat tepi jalan sekejap dan allow me to take this picture. Sporting kan ayah saya? :)

Sabah Fits "One Malaysia" - Tuesday, 05 May 2009, New Sabah Times.

With more than 40 ethnic groups living harmoniously with each other, Sabah is the best module for implementing the One Malaysia concept, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. “When we talk about One Malaysia, there is no other state that fits into this concept better than Sabah. There are roughly 45 ethnic and sub-ethnic groups in Sabah, making the State very, very colourful indeed. Here is where lays the best example of One Malaysia concept,” he said, speaking at the welcoming dinner in conjunction with his first visit to Sabah as the Prime Minister here last night.

Najib said the people have displayed the true essence of the One Malaysia concept as they do not only respect but also assimilates each other’s way of life to the extend that there were no barriers that separate them from each other.

In fact, he said, it is sometimes difficult to differentiate one Sabahan from another as they all appreciates and displays each others’ customs and culture.

I am just a proud Sabahan.
